Pregnancy in dogs

Period :

                      Dogs are pregnant for a period of 63 days or approximately 2 months.During a short period of 2 months a lot changes take place from fertilisation to full development of puppy. 
                     During 1st month of pregnancy, the fertilised eggs travel to uterine horn where they embed themself in the lining and start to develop. By the end of the 1st month, a vetenarian can detect the foetal heart beat. Im the 2nd month develops into full sized puppies. 
                      By the end of 2nd month and starting of 3rd month puppies are ready to be born. 

Diagnosis :

Abdominal palpation -                                                           By Abdominal palpation starting at approximately 28 days to see if your dog is pregnant. At the stage of pregnancy the puppies feel like little gulf balls. 

Ultrasound :

                 It can be used to detect the pregnancy of dog between 25-35 days of gestation. An Ultrasound can also detect heart beats giving you an estimate of the number of puppies the bitch is carrying. 

Hormone :

                  After 30 days of pregnancy the Queen starts producing hormones Relaxin. This hormone only releases during pregnancy,making the test relatively accurate. 

X-ray:

               It is the most accurate method of detection of pregnancy in dogs but  you have to wait for until 45-55 days of age. At this age you can able to see skeleton of babies. 

Other signs:

                Include increase in appetite
                              Weight gain 
                              Increase in nipple size and even detect milk secretions from nipples.
