Himachali hound :

Locally known as gaddi,these are native to himalayan region. The breed is primarily used as livestock guardian, protecting flocks of yak and sheep from various predators and as a property guard. It is closely related to tibetan mastiff. They have double coat with typically harsh and thick and they are usually black and tan with some white markings on chest and toe and neck. They have droopy ears Lifespan of dog is 10-13 years.

Mudhol hound:

These dogs are native to bordering regions of karnataka and maharastra states. This dog was named after erstwhile princely state of mudhol. Their head is narrow and long and broad between the ears and tappering muzzle. Their jaws are powerful and long but deceptively weak looking. The nose of this breed is long and is liver or black coloured. Neck of this dog is long, muscular and fits well into the shoulders. Forelegs of this breed are long straight and well boned and their back legs are long broad well muscled with a slight curve over the loin. Their chest is deep, strong and well sprung ribs. The coat of this breed is smooth and short.

They have a lifespan of 10-15 years. Most common disease in this breed are diseases relating to skin.

Rajapalayam:

This dog breed is native to tamilnadu state of India and was named after the rajapalayam city of the state. It is both muscular and long limbed giving it the breed a sense of balance. They are slender and have an elegant head with an elongated muzzle and a sharp forehead. They have a loose coat but no wrinkles or dewlap. Soft ears hang on the sides of their head and their eyes are brown. Their tail is longer and is bony. This dog is good guard dog.

Combai:

This dog breed is originated from tamilnadu state. They are traditionally meant for hunting. They have short and smooth coat and usually reddish brown in colour with a slightly lighter coloured saddle and a black muzzle. The breed has a long tappering tail that is curled over their back. It has a stocky muscular body enough to kill a bear. Average life span 13-14 years.

Vikhan sheepdog:

These breed have its origin from himachal pradesh. They are known for courageous and fearlessness. They originally guarded livestock. Coat of this dog comes with shades of black, brown, red and fawn but multicoloured and spotted dogs are very common. Compared to other molossers this is gaint among the coolies of the region. They have great intelligence and good temperance.

Kanni & chippiparai :

It is one of the breed of Tamilnadu origin. These dogs are great at hunting hares, wild boars and blackbucks. The breed is mainly used for coursing. They have typically sighthound features with long legs. The breed is usually white in colour and other colours can be found. The chippiparai is often regarded as most intelligent and biddable bread of India. The important features of this breed are fawn coat, black nostrils, black eyes, broad chest and tucked up abdomen. Average life span of the breed is 13-15 years.

Pandikona :

Found in Andhra-pradesh and is a medium sized hound well adopted to harsh climatic condition.The breed coat is essentially short haired and smooth with colours varying from solid fawn white to black with white patches. They are slim and muscular dogs with erect ears and long tail that most times curve upwards. It has the lifespan of 10-12 years.

Kumaon mastiff:

These breeds are found in the hilly areas of uttarakhand. They have fairly lean and well boned muscular body. The head of this dogs are large and they have strong neck. They have a soft, short coat that comes in white and brindle. These dogs also have white marks. These dogs also have almond eyes, a dark muzzle and hanging ears. Lifespan is of 10-12 years.

Bully kutta:

This dog breeds are known as Indian mastiffs. They are commonly found in Punjab, Delhi and Haryana. This dog is used for hunting and guarding. They are thick boned with a muscular structure and broad head and tail tappering to fine tip. They are almond shaped eyes and the ears are erect but are often cropped. Like the bulldog they have loose skin especially around neck and the jaw.
