GASTRITIS IN DOG'S

                 


      It is a condition in dog that results from the inflammation of the lining of gastrointestinal system.

It may be acute or chronic gastritis. It depends on the period of persistance of symptoms ( vomitions) 

Acute gastritis : less than 24 hours 

Chronic gastritis : upto 2 weeks

Causes :

 Dietary indiscretion ( ingestion of foreign materials or spoiled food)
Drugs or toxic ingestion ( antibiotics, NSAID, fertilisers etc)
Systemic illness (pancreatitis)
Endo-parasite infection
Viral infections( parvo viral infection)
Liver disease 
Kidney disease 
Food allergy. 

Symptoms :

Vomitions 
Loss of appetite and weight loss
Dehydration 
Excessive thirst
Black stools
Abdominal pain
Blood in stools or vomit.

Diagnosis :

Urine and blood tests
Faecal examination 
Physical examination of animal
Endoscopy 
Biopsy

Treatment :

In most of the cases gastritis condition can recover on it's own within 24hrs.
With hold the food for 24 hrs and water should be given intermittently in less amount.
In severe condition anti emitics along with intra venous injection.

Home remedy :

             Feeding the animal with sprouts reduce the growth of helicobacter pylori which causes ulcers and also NSAID induced gastritis.
